Welcome to The Slovak Garden
Where We Got Our Start
Slovak Garden traces its roots back to families who wanted to create something meaningful for Slovak Americans building new lives in the United States. The organization took shape through generosity, shared faith, and a desire to support others who were arriving with few resources.
In its earliest years, Slovak Garden offered shelter to new families who had recently immigrated or relocated. Many people first encountered the community in a moment of transition or need, and they were welcomed with open arms. Some families stayed for weeks or months until they could establish themselves in Central Florida.
The early community was vibrant, close-knit, and grounded in the traditions of Slovak life. Events were held regularly, traditional foods were cooked, and Slovak Mass was celebrated during special occasions. The intention was simple: preserve Slovak identity while giving people a place to feel anchored and supported.
A Living Testament to Slovak Heritage
Over the decades, Slovak Garden has continued to represent the spirit of Slovak people. The values that shaped the early years remain woven into the fabric of the organization:

How the Community Evolved Over Time
As Central Florida grew, Slovak Garden went through its own changes. Some land was sold over the years to keep the organization operating, yet the core of the community stayed intact. The museum, the halls, and the residential units all remained functional pieces of the property, even through periods when events became less frequent.
Despite these challenges, the Garden survived. This alone is notable, since the Slovak population in the United States is relatively small. The continued existence of Slovak Garden reflects the dedication of the community and the determination to keep Slovak culture alive far from Europe.
The past several years, especially after pandemic shutdowns, led to reduced events and fewer large gatherings. Slovak Day, once the main celebration drawing hundreds of guests, paused for more than five years. The museum aged, the halls grew quiet, and many units needed renovation.
Yet none of this dampened the underlying spirit of the Garden. Instead, it revealed a clear opportunity for renewal and growth.
Where Slovak Garden Stands Today
Slovak Garden is now in a period of revitalization. Leadership and volunteers are actively refreshing the property, renovating residential units, organizing the museum, and preparing the halls for future use.
The work being done reflects a new wave of energy and hope. The goal is not simply to maintain what exists, but to elevate it into a space that honors Slovak culture with beauty, cleanliness, and pride.
Today, Slovak Garden is:
Improving the visual appearance and infrastructure of the property
Preparing for the return of major cultural events, including Slovak Day
Rebuilding museum displays to better represent traditional Slovak life
Strengthening community ties through volunteer support and membership
Creating plans for outdoor gathering spaces and weddings in the future
The community is stepping forward again with intention, ready to polish the “diamond in the rough” and bring it back to life for the next generation.

The next chapter for Slovak Garden is one of growth. The vision is to create a community that feels as alive, welcoming, and culturally rich as it did decades ago, while ensuring it is beautiful, modernized, and well cared for.
This effort is not placed on the residents who live here. It is supported by volunteers, members, board leaders, and Slovaks from across the country who believe the Garden deserves to shine again.
As Slovak Garden moves forward, it continues to carry the original intention: to offer a warm, safe, faith-guided community and to preserve the heritage that brought so many families together in Central Florida.
